Nothing fantastic about this event. Was not in the mood the shoot. Just joined this event cuz I have not been shooting for quite sometimes. Meet up with a old friend and some new friends during the event.

Sunday 16th October noon I received a sms from OCBC, Chris Rob, the race director saying that the ride was put on stop at 8.25am due to heavy traffic. I am very lucky to complete the race.

"Sunday’s proceedings kicked off at 6.30am with the 52km Challenge, enjoyed by over 1,700 amateur cyclists. Khairul Naim Azhar crossed the line in first place, followed by Mohd Rizal Tisin, and Muhamad NurSyafiqSuhaimy in second and third place, respectively. The first female cyclist across the finish line was Siti Suhana Sulaiman, ahead of Nurul Nurlizawati M Sharif and Sian Wilson in second and third."

Motorex Wet Lube

- Messy, hard to squeeze. Tip not fine enough. Lube it the night before the ride and next day my floor is full of the lube. Place my bike on top of my car and when reach the destination can see some oil stain on my car roof. After the ride can see the chain is still very shinny with oil.

Finish Line - Dry lube
- so far so good. No complain. I tried to drip a few drops on my finger and not the very oily feel. Clean and will not attract dirt.
- after 1 day the surface of the paper is will very sticky

Pedros GO!
- Exactly the same as Finish Line - Dry lube.
- very smooth when i place a drop on my finger

Finish Line Wet Lube
- almost the same as Motorex but will not mess the floor. I guess it will still stick on the chain.

Finish Line Wax
- after 1 day the surface feels sticky, but not as sticky as Finish Line Dry Lube.
- smudge on paper immediately

Park Tool CL1
- Synthetic Blend Chain Lube with PTFE
- works great in wet or dry conditions.
- Also work great on cables, spoke nipples, and derailleur and brake pivots
- very thing feels the same like Redline dry lube.
- smudge on paper immediately and smudge the most compares to others

Muc-off dry lube
- Put a few drop in my fingers and rub them. Few seconds its gone! Dont event need to wash my hand.
- paper surface after a day crumple just like a water on the paper
- will smudge even the ink!

-You can get it in KL now but some people said they got it from KSH TTDI. Called all the LBS and no one is selling it now. Email Pedros and I can only get it in Singapore.

Tubeless - the Pros and Cons

March 2011 I converted my wheels to a tubeless. Convert mean It can be not using a tubeless rims with non tubeless tires. Please refer to my March 2011 post here. Im using Notubes ZTR Alpine (tubeless) and Kenda Klimax tires (non-tubeless).

July 24 2011 is PCC Prez ride. A week before the ride I top up another 30ml each of the wheel and yesterday 17th August after removing the tires - it dried out.

So here are my POV of Pros and Cons about tubeless conversion

The Pros
- reduce weight - at least 200g for 2 wheels
- need not to remove and replace a puncture tube during a hash
- cut cost for each tube is RM15
- not messy

The Cons
- you wont know when is the sealant dried out inside your tires.
- costly setup (RM25 for 1pc tubeless valve, RM50 for a small bottle 473ml for sealant, RM10 for 1pc rim tape) and this is a self workmanship. LBS can do it for RM100 per piece.
- 1st time setup is difficult. My suggestion is to use a new tires and pick the right tires and stick with it.

This is what I found from ZTR website

Stan’s ZTR Rims with BST offer significant performance gains
- Short sidewalls trap air better when running tubeless
- By making the inner rim sidewall the same shape as the tire bead we can trap air pressure much better when
running tubeless.
- When tubes are used the lower sidewall of a BST rim will eliminate many of the pinch flats that occur when the
tire is driven into the top of the rim.
- The combination of short sidewalls and wider internal rim widths makes a 24mm wide rim perform like much
wider 30mm wide rims but in a much lighter package. This is why the ZTR rims have won so many races it's not
just the light weight but the tire performance every rider gets from this rim.
- The rim and tire are the largest rotating mass we have on a bicycle. When we can reduce the rim weight by 100
to 160g we gain speed.
- Tire performance is greatly improved thus allowing riders to run pressures lower than ever before.
- Lower pressures will make the bike smoother over rough terrain.
- Lower pressures will have less rebound when hitting rocks roots etc.
- This lower pressure will allow the tire to conform and absorb much of the impact putting suspension into the
bicycle.
- The combination of the lower air pressure better tire stability makes riders faster and with better control.

I'm going to compare 9 speed with 10 speed cassette, the price vs. grade! for RM200 range,if you are using 9 speed you can get a SRAM PG990 X9 grade but if you are using 10 speed, RM200 you can only get x7 grade.

The weight never come into my mind as a consideration. 10speed cassette has an extra speed so the extra weight does make sense.

this will be my new setup but unfortunately the website does not have MMX Podium rims options. 1391g minus 42g x 2 (Apline is 330g and MMX is 288g per piece) = 1307g

MMX Podium is wider comparing to Apline and some said MMX feels like a tabular like road bike - I wonder hows it feels.

The weight of the Alpine is 330g per piece and the Podium MMX is 288g. Bought is at TBFS @ RM750/ USD250 per pair without the yellow tape. Will only be using it after my current tires worn out.

"The Podium is a race only wheel and should be used that way. I have talked with Stan directly about this after a semi local shop to me was selling them as everyday use wheels. He told me if the wheel is used as a "do it all" wheel do not expect it to last much longer then a year. I know that there are people out there that are using them as everyday wheels but if it me I would take the small weight penalty and go with the Alpine rim."

GX1 will be my 3rd grip I bought from Ergon. My 1st Ergon grip is GC2 (photo below) and my 2nd will be GP1 (@202g and sold). The 3rd one I ordered from CRC.

These grips are pretty heavy across the board, but they are worth the comfort. I will still be keeping the GC2 which build together with a bar end.

SRAM XX vs. XO Shifter (updated 4/8/2011)

to remove the cover of the XO shifter, you just need to turn the "impulse" and its very loose. XX you need a special tools to remove.

SRAM claimed XX shifter weight - 183g per pair = 91.5g per piece

actual weight per piece - uncut wire brand new

If XO = 232g per pair minus XX 183g = 49g so I should be saving this amount of weight but right now I only saved 18g for RM750/ USD250 invested :(

If you ask me what's the diff between these two shifter, they are:
1) effortless shifting
2) XX can only use with 2x10 setting
3) look - carbon cover for XX
4) both can use matchmaker

- Almost reaching the check point 2 my right/ rear XX shifter failed. Unable to shift at all and end up DNF my ride. :(

The same day had the shifter removed and passed to KSH directly for claim/ repair.

3rd August 2011 - call from KSH
They ask me to bring back the other side (front FD) shifter ASAP for full claim instead of repairing it as I was told that SRAM shifter has this problem on all their SRAM trigger shift.

I hope they can make it before my JIM THOMPSON RIDE on 14th August.

Panasonic GF2 with 3D lens doesn't allow to shoot video!!! I have to go outdoor to shoot as this lens aperture is F12!!!

my XX FD weight

I'm going Insane. I will be using SRAM RED FD on my MTB! My current XX FD top pull, low clamp weight is 120g. SRAM RED FD low pull is 70g, SRAM website claimed 58g. The Red FD I got is with me now is a limited edition. RM290 only and I will need to get a light weight carbon FD clamp. Still looking around for it else have to order from CRC.

In order to use a low pull FD clamp on a top pull FD bike, you need to get a Umlenker from Speen

5 hours after removing the compression short - the red mark still there!

According to the washing instructions:

1) you must wash with cold water

2) dry in sun shade – do not try under the sun.

3) do not use fabric softener

4) Rinse immediately in cool water after each use.

All the above mentioned is to protect and extend the lifespan of the fabrics.

Verdict from me about 2XU Cycling Pants

1) Better to get a 2XU bib instead of cycling short especially to those who has tummy. If I have a choice again I will get a BIB.

2) Tested this pants on Kemensah trail for 20km - I do not see any diff.

Thats all. Nothing seriously impressive for a RM400 cycling pants. I bought this pant to replaced on old one. Brands like F2P already cost RM200 so I ended to try this compression shorts.

Anyway its still too early to conclude about 2XU compression cycling short now. Will come back to add more review. Watch out.

Quick Note
- 22nd Jan 2o11
- started at 7.37am at Genting Sempah Hospital
- total riders = 3 (me, Nicholas Chan and Guan)
- Ride ended at 4pm.

20th Jan after Kiara 3 of us decided to ride Genting Sempah and Guan suggested me should go up till Genting Highland. I told myself I will only ride till Gotong Jaya and also hoping that the Batang Kali Police will stop and disallow us to continue to ride up. At 15km at the peak of Genting Sempah we saw another rider and asking us where are we going. Guan said we plan to go up Genting Highland and the guy said yes we can ride up and wont get shop at the police check on weekday and Saturday. DAMN!

Riding us from the beginning no problem at all and we reached Gotong Jaya at 10am and had our meal. I know my limit which I cant continue with them but Guan said "we already that far", "we might not be able to do it anytime soon" and thats keep me continue the journey all the way up.

At the start I can feel my legs are going to cramp. About 20 pedals turn I can feel my legs are going to cramp especially the right one. After stopping and want to continue my legs just cant get up and start pedal again. After a few hundreds meter we had a major break and I apply some muscle rub.

We had a major stop for every hundred meters and 4 more KM to go is the major challenge for us and especially me. Some friendly tour bus drivers offer help to shuffle us but I weave my hand and say NO NO NO. From this point onwards I almost pushing my bikes as I cant get on to my bike.

1km. Another major stop for food and cig for Guan. For me I know I cant stop for long so every major break im the one who go first and finally we reached the top - about 1pm.

We stop every 1km to let the rotor to cool down as I do not was to buy another XX rotor. I also noticed my rear pad is almost finishing. Luckily I did not use a Sintered pad instead of Organic.

Was fun during the ride down till we passed Gotong Jaya where we need to climb 2 mountains and after that we reached the Police station at Batang Kali and took Genting Sempah back to our starting point. The ride down was so fun as I know I will be heading home. We reach the starting point at about 4pm and everyone was quickly pack and go home.

i will be continue to ride more details later. I need to go and replace my brake pad now.

Torque Wrench

Who will ever tough the torque wrench will affect your ride till last Thursday 20th Jan I felt my bike responsive is very different.

All I did it to used the torque wrench and set at 3N.M (5N.M recommended by manufacturer) on my stem and the whole cockpit feeling is so much stiff.

my bike without BB now

I have change my crank and BB just before the Sepang Jamboree on the 21st Nov and its also my first XC ride with SRAM XX crank with Truvativ ceramic BB plus its also my first long distance 43km ride after my shoulder injury.

Almost toward the end of the race I can feels that my crank is not as smooth anymore - maybe due to the muddy trail condition. It took me 3 days to clean up my bike completely and I still feels the un-smoothness of my new crank. I send back to my regular bike shop, which is also where I bought my crank.

The bike shop mechanic told me to leave my bike behind as the BB need major cleaning. Few days later I took the bike back and it better but not as smooth as new.

After a few more rides it actually getting worse. So on the 2nd Jan 2011 I took my bike back to the shop and this time I do it myself. I tried to remove the old grease and put in the new grease but the non-drive side ceramic BB is not behave as usual where I can feel the roughness as I spin it. I took everything off my bike - BB and told the bike shop to claim for me.That time I was not happy with what I paid for a ceramic bearing and this is what I get?

I dont know how long will I get it repair or get a new BB and I prefer full $ refund. 4th Jan when over to Orbea Concept Store, Desa Seri Hartamas and bought a Chris King BB (RM485) with Chris King BB stepped Conversion kit (RM160) to use with my XX crank.

Chris King BB stepped Conversion kit. You need a few on the top most washer, center from left and the middle one for non-drive side, and bottom right for drive side.

the packaging and the price

If you ask me the performance between Chrisking stainless steel sealed bearing and Truvativ Ceramic BB, I would say its almost the same but of course ceramic BB is more smoother. Ceramic suppose to be 300% smoother, 5% lighter, 68% higher stiffness and 121% harder - according to Ceramic Speed.

I was told by a few bike shop mechanics saying that ceramic dislike water. Tried to Google on it but cant find any proof about it.

Stainless steel BB is much easier to maintain. According to Truvativ ceramic BB, ceramic need to be clean and relube every 500km ride. And each time when you relube, it need to use a special lube, which already came with the BB and look like this or you need to get this ceramic grease.

Mountain Bike Jockey Wheel compare

Tacx has the rougher spin among the rest and the cheapest RM70 at BikePro. Tacx is a sealed bearing and also has the biggest ball bearing among the rest - 6 bearings. Problem with this Tacx is I cant fit this into my XX RD. The caps provided by the Tacx XX pulley T25 torx cant passthrough the cap due to the hole size. Using back the original cap from XX, after locking it the jockey cant even move.

To replace the XX jockey it will cost RM500+ cuz its a ceramic. I have checked with Lim -BP. Read more about SRAM XX jockey wheel replacement here why its so expensive.

KCNC ceramic jockey wheel cost me RM110 for a pair. At first when I open the cap for inspection it doesnt look like ceramic bearing to me cuz if you were to compare XX jockey the code at the bearing cap with start with 4 digit numeric numbers follow by alphabet "CE". And when I open the cap it looks like ceramic. Look at the color of the bearing between XX and KCNC. Oh ya KCNC has 2 types of Jockey, one is the sealed bearing normal type which cost rm70 and the ceramic type.

KCNC ceramic is smoother compare to TACX. The smoothest among these bearing is Ridea. Ridea cost me RM120 and you can get it from Fook Sang. A closer inspection to Ridea is it has 9 ball bearings and smallest ball bearings compare to the rest. Can this makes RIDEA the smoothest jockey wheel among the rest?

According to Ah Yoong, TBFS, Ridea jockey wheel caps is design to fit nicely on the jockey wheel and makes it less wobbly and yes, I do feels it spin smoothly when I hold all the jockey wheel with my two fingers.

Another jockey wheel available in the market is Token. Token has both normal bearing and tiramic (ceramic coating on a steel) bearing. I did not consider the tiramic cuz its the most expensive -RM170 for a tiramic.

After work at 6pm I had my camera gear with me and was thinking to go to some place to shot and since Im on my way home I just drop by at 9 emperor temple to do some night shots. In my bag I only have 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 80-200mm and the body with 4GB card.

I reached there at 7pm and was waiting outside the stage. I walked towards a uncle at the entrance of the back stage to ask what time is the performance start and he told me 8pm. I saw 2 photographers inside so I decide to take the opportunity to snap some rare moment. Both of the photographers are very friendly I did not disturb and corporate with them by not blocking their angle. Later a uncle with Leica M8 joined us - now this fellow not very co-operate, blocking and wont give any change for other photographers to take sweet spot.

They are preparing for 8pm performance and I was there till "RELA" came in and kick us out from the back stage and that time they are so many other "photographers".

Below are some photos I managed to shoot from 7pm till 8.30pm.
